World Vegan Day Vegan Mozzarella Pizza!

Today, World Vegan Day marks the beginning of World Vegan Month!

Go check out the World Vegan Month website, run by the Vegan Society for an abundance of information, event locations and even discounts!

“The [vegan] month starts with World Vegan Day on 1 November to celebrate the founding of the world’s first Vegan Society on that day in November 1944. The word ‘vegan’ was chosen by founder  Donald Watson and his ‘non-dairy vegetarians’ to describe their diet.  Watson took the first and last two letters of ‘vegetarian’ to create this new word.”

Most importantly, celebrate with a special vegan meal like I am with super quick, rise free pizza topped with gooey, stretchy and oh so quick and easy vegan mozzarella style cheese!

oh. lazy ol’ me *bought* vegarella or whatever they baptised it (made from rice, a pretty “clean” formulation) but have no idea if it would melt too. will test it today though – a rainy ray, perf for a pizza 😀

and thanks to your post I’m thinking to celebrate the month also, by posting vegan-only content (some of the cleanest cosmetics out there contain beeswax) and of course, only palm-oil free stuff (so no to nutella and other seemingly innocent packaged goods).

    • Poppy says:

Sorry for the delay – did you get to try the vegarella?
I look forward to your vegan product only month! I was interested to see ‘no nutella’ due to palm oil, but it also contains dairy? Unless it is made differently in Europe?

      • beautycalyptique says:

oh, you’re probably right about milk powder… sugar and palm oil are the main ingredients.

as for vegarella, whoa, the packaged one was atrocious. the plastic packaging had a horrid chem smell 😦 yikes

      • Poppy says:

Oh dear! That’s a shame! I’ve found that with pretty much every commercial vegan cheese I’ve tried! Weird chemical, artificial smell and taste! That’s why I’ve taken to making them myself every now and again, they smell and taste good and aren’t full of weird stuff!!

      • beautycalyptique says:

I tried “blue cheese” and it was sort of okay-ish. only the fake-arella was atrocious.
have you made “cheese” with soaked cashews?

      • Poppy says:

This mozzarella is made with soaked cashews.. I mainly use almonds to make a feta style cheese..

      • beautycalyptique says:

cool. I just discovered (via celeste from honk if you’re vegan) that you can make vegan yogurt from coconut… gosh 😀 *too many feelings*

      • Poppy says:

I know I saw it too – amazing!! I’ve never made yoghurt, definitely want to give it a go!

      • beautycalyptique says:

my mum has a conventional yogurt-maker, I wonder if it works with vegan ingredients too…

      • Poppy says:

Hmm, I can’t see why not? Let me know!

Thank you for your post – I did not know it was vegan day. Very inspiring. I do have a meatfilled family weekend ahead of but I am seriously thinking about going vegan for the rest of the month. I do not eat a lot of meat in general but I do still enjoy my eggs and dairy products – it would be interesting to see how I would do without.

    • Poppy says:

I’m so glad that you are considering a vegan month! I hope you do give it a go, I think it’s fun trying out new things and exploring food in a different way! 😀
